We blended in 5% Syrah which adds a spicy character to the black cherry, red bramble fruit on the nose. Long mouth feel supports firm tannins and medium to high acidity on the finish. The vintage is evolving similar to our 2012 and we expect further integration through 2020. Overall, this is an aromatic vintage that will improve through 2024 but remarkably approachable in 2018. We recommend serving at 64 degrees Fahrenheit and decanting to experience a dramatic increase in complexity. It will continue to evolve and improve over time.
Hand harvested grapes passed through two manual-sorting tables, first as whole clusters and then as single berries after destemming. Cold maceration to extract color and aromas for 7 days. Fermentation lasted 27 days. Delestage and manual punch-downs during the first 19 days to further enhance extraction. Approximately 25% of the vintage was barrel fermented.
